About the Danish language

Danish is spoken by approximately 5.5 million people, most of whom live in Denmark itself. There are around 50,000 Danish speakers in northern Germany, as well as smaller communities in the USA, Canada, and Argentina.

Danish is one of the official languages of both Greenland and the Faroe Islands. Alongside English, it is also studied as a foreign language by most school students in Iceland.

So why learn Danish?

It's rewarding
Danes are very appreciative of any attempts to learn their language, so practising what you've learnt will be a particular pleasure. Any trip or stay in Denmark will be enriched if you take the time to learn a little of the language before you go.

Understood throughout Scandinavia
Danish is widely understood in other Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, Norway, and Iceland, so you will find it of considerable use when travelling in this part of the world.

It's a challenge
Although Danish grammar has many similarities with English, the language is not particularly easy language to learn, mainly due to its relatively complex pronunciation. If you're a capable linguist looking for a challenge, why not test yourself by trying to learn a little Danish?
